Lizard Pushups: datasheet

Below is the data sheet you will be using. You can copy the table below, or you can download it as a pdf file (90kb).

A lizard is considered to have "won" the encounter if the other lizard retreats. You will also record the most aggressive behavior displayed by the resident lizard. After watching the encounter, you will score the behavior of the resident lizard as follows (pick the highest level the lizard displayed and use that as the score):

1........Approach
2........Pushup display
3........Chase
4........Open-mouthed chase

Cells that have a shaded background are those in which the intruder is a stranger to the resident, not a neighbor.diagram of lizard territories

A is neighbor to B and D.
B is neighbor to A and C.
C is neighbor to B and D.
D is neighbor to A and C.

 

The lizards are not all exactly the same size. Lizards "A" and "C" are medium-sized, lizard "B" is small, and lizard "D" is large
