Lizard Pushups: Coding behavior (con't)

What components did you record? There are different ways to record behavior, and behaviors can be broken down into many or few components. Here is one way of describing the animation on the previous page:

1. lizard A is sitting on a branch.
2. lizard B approaches, and halts facing lizard A.
3. lizard A does pushups.
4. lizard B does pushups.
5. lizard A stands up and runs toward lizard B.
6. lizard B turns around and leaves.
7. lizard A sits down again.

This behavioral sequence could be broken down into the following components:

  • resting ("sitting")
  • standing up ("standing")
  • slow approach ("walking")
  • fast approach ("running")
  • pushup
  • withdraw (walking or running away)

OK, now you have a basic vocabulary to describe the lizard behaviors you see. What's the next step?
