Answer: Only the male flies move around! That's not very realistic. The most glaring inaccuracy of the animation is that the females are portrayed as passive participants, simply letting any male hop on or off them. This inaccuracy made it easier to focus on the males and their behavior, but in real life, females of many species often play just as active a role (if not more active) in determining who mates with whom.

Little is known about the role of female choice in this species of walnut flies. Maybe you will be the one to research it!
