Talking Caterpillars: Video First nectar gland clip: drink1 (152 kb) You are looking at the rear end of a Hemiargus isola larva (whose head is offscreen to the right), which is being tended by Crematogaster opuntiae ants. The ant drums on the larva with her antennae; the larva produces a droplet of nectar. The ant lowers her head and laps up the droplet.
