Laboratory Resource Pages for Ornithology:

IACUC: By federal law, all research involving animal subjects is regulated by an internal animal review committee. At our university these activities are managed by the University of Arizona Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) . The IACUC requires that each project using animals be reviewed and approved, and that all people involved in the project be certified under their guidelines. The projects for this class that involve the use of live animals (Mockingbird project and field bird netting) have been approved as projects. Each of you needs to complete the certification requirements for these. This involves reading a "booklet" of information on two topics and completing a quiz from the content. Both of these (fortunately) are available and can be submitted online. The two modules are for "General Laws and Regulations", and for "Animal Hazards". The animal hazards module is less relevant to bird studies, but is still worthwhile. Please complete both of these as soon as you can. When you've completed them, let us know.
If you already have IACUC certification, you don't need to redo them for this class (they apply for all University animal research). Just let us know.

If you have any trouble with these, let one of us know.
