Galapagos Marine Ecology Page last updated 24 March 2009 Meet the staff!
Katrina Mangin and Dave Gori co-teach Galapagos Marine Ecology. Katrina and Dave created the course in 2004 in partnership with high school biology teacher Tom Lutz. They've taught the course as a team in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. Katrina teaches marine biology at the University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson, AZ. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the UA, based on intertidal research done in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. She has taught numerous courses for both undergraduates and teachers at the University of Arizona since 1995. Dave Gori is the senior ecologist for the Nature Conservancy in New Mexico, and has contributed to the scientific expertise of the Conservancy for 17 years. He holds a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona. Dave is an expert on the birds and plants of the Galapagos. Together Dave and Katrina share their expertise on the marine and terrestrial ecology and evolution of the Galapagos, and on the fascinating and challenging social and conservation issues at play there.
Tom Lutz has taught high school biology for over 30 years in Phoenix. He is passionate about the Galapagos Islands, and has made it his mission to try to help as many teachers as possible to have the extraordinary experience of visiting these unique islands, not only to experience the unique natural history but to get to know the people, as well, who live and work there. He also loves to find cool marine critters in the Galapagos tidepools. We hope you can join us! |
