I am broadly interested in the function and evolution of bacterial symbionts of insects. My current research focuses on the molecular basis of interactions of Serratia symbiotica, a secondary symbiont, with its aphid hosts. I am interested in functions such as heat-shock resistance and in interactions of S. symbiotica with other intracellular bacteria within aphids. Other interests include the evolution of Serratia symbionts in aphids.
