Application deadline: The deadline for applying to our department is Dec. 8.
New Grad College online application:
Admission requirements
Students are normally admitted for the fall semester only. Completed applications should be submitted to the department by December 8.
It is recommended that applicants have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a biology-related field. Students who have a M.S. degree in a related field are encouraged to apply. Previous research experience is highly desirable but not essential. Applicants are strongly urged to correspond directly with Faculty members whose work is of particular interest (info on selecting a potential faculty advisor).
Applicants are encouraged to seek external financial support from institutions such as the National Science Foundation and the Danforth Foundation. The department will make every effort to offer financial aid in the form of teaching or research assistantships. Course work, while necessary, is no substitute for scholarship. Accordingly, particular emphasis is placed on the student's ability to formulate and pursue original research needs of each student.
Middle and high school teachers who desire advanced, specialized training in the biological sciences to enhance their classroom teaching methods may do so through the Master of Science in General Biology degree program (administered through Biochemistry).
